Today we were changing hotels, so we got up at seven to pack and handed our luggage over at the front desk at nine for delivery. After that, we bought breakfast from the convenience store across the street, went back upstairs, and rested in the room until noon.

The main plan for the day was to take the sightseeing boat from Asakusa to Hamarikyu Gardens. After buying the tickets, we still had a little time left, so we went over to Asakusa to take a photo with Kaminarimon, but it was too crowded, and our daughter did not want to look at the camera either.

There were also a lot of passengers on the boat. We were too slow to get window seats, and our daughter quickly lost interest and started eating bread instead.

We bought tickets for the route from Asakusa to Hamarikyu Gardens. It took about thirty-five minutes to get there, and the ticket also included admission to the gardens.

We spent more than an hour walking around Hamarikyu, and our daughter walked quite a bit too.

Our daughter walked quite a lot with her mom

Having such a beautiful garden in the middle of a huge city is really something to envy.

In the end, our daughter got tired and let dad carry her.

Very happy being carried by dad

After more than an hour there, we walked to Ginza to catch the subway. Our daughter was in a great mood and sang the whole way.

We met friends in Mita at a family restaurant. Our daughter was still shy around my friend, but she warmed up more quickly this time. Unlike yesterday, she did not insist that we stand up and hold her the whole time. Later she was even able to play on her own comfortably, though she still refused to look straight at the camera when we took a group photo.

My friend’s wife really wanted to play with her, but our daughter would not let anyone hold her.

After dinner, we took a walk to Tokyo Tower. It was the first time either my wife or I had ever gone up.

It was already quite late, and our daughter’s diaper badly needed changing, so after only a quick look around, we hurried off to that night’s hotel, the Shinagawa Prince Hotel.

Passing the time with a plastic bag while waiting to check in

Shinagawa Prince Hotel was enormous, practically a small hotel city. The check-in counters for the different towers were all in different places, so you had to read the signs carefully to find the right one. We stayed in an Annex Tower Double Room, Non-Smoking (21st-29th Floors).

The room was very old and had a slight cigarette smell, probably something left over from the days before the hotel was fully non-smoking. I was quite disappointed and even regretted switching from Tobu Hotel Levant Tokyo to this place. At least the window could be opened for ventilation. It seems the Annex Tower is one of the older towers. Lesson learned: I really should do my homework more carefully before booking next time.

Because our daughter had accidentally pooped in the bathtub while bathing at home before the trip, she became quite afraid of baths during this trip. Every day she cried and said she did not want to bathe unless I held her while washing her. Today was the same: I had to drag her in for a bath, and she cried the whole time.

The room had an odor, but the view was nice.
